Reverend Shelia L. Word-Scott Strives to Foster Dialogue

Reverend Shelia L. Word-Scott ‘11 strives to foster rich faith dialogues at Aquinas Institute of Theology and promote positive experiences on the Aquinas Alumni Steering Committee.

“Aquinas has been a place of knowledge, self-discovery and ministerial development,” she said. “Before becoming an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, I have had rich dialogues about my faith journey.”

A St. Louis native, Reverend Scott is an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M.E.) and the appointed pastor of Imani A.M.E. Church in Overland, Mo, since 2014.

“It is in this spirit of our connectedness through the body of Christ that we come to understand others who have a diverse background,” she said. “This is how I will serve by honoring God and others by being my authentic self.”

She considers herself a life-learner and is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. Reverend Scott holds a Master of Divinity from Aquinas, a Master of Business Administration from Fontbonne University (2003), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and Marketing from the University of Missouri-Columbia (1995). Reverend Scott is also bi-vocational, working full-time as a Training Specialist at TD Ameritrade.

“Preaching the Word of God is life giving,” she said.  “It should transform lives and reveal God’s grace toward humanity.” “This transformation, nonetheless, must take place within the life of the preacher in order to effectively encourage others to move beyond the status quo.”
