Aquinas Institute of Theology Alumnus Deacon Dave Harpring ’10 wants to elevate the organization to new heights by serving on the Alumni Steering Committee.
“I want to see AI thrive in and be a resource for the St. Louis community” he says. “The Alumni have so much wisdom and experience to share with AI and the communities in which they live and work, and the steering committee can be a force in coordinating events and programs to tap this resource and provide ways to energize and reenergize Alums in their ministries.”
Born in southeastern Indiana, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1974, which is how led him to St. Louis working for McDonnell Douglas. Deacon Harpring is a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, ordained in June 2003. After ordination, from 2003 to 2016, he was assigned to Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Spanish Lake, Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, and St. Ferdinand Parish in Florissant.
Deacon Harpring graduated from Aquinas Institute in 2010 with a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies and later received a Certificate in Spiritual Direction in 2012.
“It was exciting to be a part of a diverse and lively student body, with tremendous professors and instructors” he says. “Any doubts that I had about my ability to thrive after being away from a formal educational environment quickly dissipated as I experienced the care and encouragement of the entire AI community.”
In 2011, he received the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola in Everyday Life through the Bridges Foundation, and is currently President of the Board for the Foundation. Aside from his ministerial pursuits, he lives with his wife Vicki in unincorporated North St. Louis and has three daughters and two granddaughters.
As a member of the Alumni Steering Committee Deacon Harpring will help create more resources and events for the alumni of Aquinas Institute.
