Aquinas Institute of Theology is pleased to announce that Michael Mascari, O.P. has accepted the position of Academic Dean effective July 1, 2018.

He had addressed the faculty, students and staff of the Institute in various meetings on March 26, and impressed those who heard him with his careful thought and his commitment to a life of study in the service of the Gospel. He expressed his eagerness to serve as Academic Dean saying, “I have told many people how much I liked the faculty and staff of Aquinas Institute, how impressed I was by their commitment to our school and to its mission, and how great was my own hope to assist in this mission.”
Michael graduated from the Institute in 1987 with an M.Div and an M.A. in Theology. He served on the faculty of the Institute in various capacities from 1996 until 2003, when he was elected as Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of Saint Albert the Great (2003-2011).  During his tenure as Prior Provincial, he also served on the Institute’s Board of Trustees.

In 2012, the Master of the Order, Bruno Cadoré, O.P., called him to Rome to serve the Order of Preachers as the Socius for the Intellectual Life, in which capacity he also served as President of Board of Directors of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum), as a Member of the Conseil scientifique, École biblique et archéologique française (Jerusalem), and as President of the Permanent Commission for the Promotion of Studies, the Order of Preachers.
In addition to his academic degrees from Aquinas Institute of Theology, Michael also holds the Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America (1996), as well as a J.D. from the DePaul University School of Law (1978).
