Saint Louis University Hospital is a component of Tenet Healthcare Corporation. The Pastoral Care department is a contracted service to the hospital by the Mission and Ministry Division of Saint Louis University, a Catholic Jesuit institution. The local system includes the university, a medical school, allied health schools, outpatient services, and a 300-bed tertiary care teaching hospital. The multi-disciplinary resources of this complex as well as the experience of the SLU ecumenical staff chaplain team are also utilized in the overview of students. Two of the staff chaplains are AI alumnae from the MAPS program.

The clinical experience at Saint Louis University Hospital provides students multi-cultural and inter-faith ministry opportunities in emergency medicine, trauma, behavioral medicine, orthopedics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, general surgery, transplant surgery, cardiology and geriatrics. Students would be exposed to ministry as well as to hospital patients and their families. Interns would make visits and respond to referrals, if needed, with the assistance of experienced staff chaplains.

*Each intern is required to have the Missouri criminal background screening completed with the results received before the semester begins.
*Illinois residents must also have the Illinois criminal background screening completed with the results received prior to the start of the semester.

Supervisor's Bio/Additional Comments:
Cristina Stevens is the Director of Clinical Pastoral Education at Saint Louis University Hospital. She is a certified chaplain (NACC) and a certified CPE Supervisor (ACPE). She holds a M.Div. from Weston Jesuit School of Theology, a Masters of Professional Studies in Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Maine. Cristina is a Roman Catholic who is originally from Italy. She arrived at SLU Hospital in the fall of 2008 after spending about ten years in Pensacola, Florida at Baptist Hospital. Her professional and ministerial experience includes work in hospital chaplaincy, parish adult formation, campus ministry, and domestic violence. Cristina loves to garden and is a proud grandmother.

Cristina Stevens' supervisory approach focuses on integrating a student's practical ministry experience; his/her spirituality; his/her theological coordinates; and the various cultural, relational, and social patterns that stem from personal history. In a word, a ministry intern could expect challenge and care directed towards his/her learning and wisdom for ministry.
