The Corinthian Correspondence: Challenges for Christian Communities Today
June 2-13, 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Mary Margaret Pazdan, O.P., Professor of Biblical Studies
2 credits or 2 CEUs
Paul is the first theologian to develop the imagery of the body of Christ as a metaphor for Christian identity at Corinth. The Corinthian correspondence offers wisdom to individuals and communities. Its lively perspectives on the diversity of gifts, confrontation, reconciliation, Eucharist and being the new creation challenge and renew contemporary Christian communities.

Introduction to the Practices of Pastoral Care
June 2-13, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Susan Mielke, D.Min., Care and Counseling, Inc.
2 credits or 2 CEUs
Students and ministers will explore and identify practices for giving effective pastoral care. Participants will consider how an increased awareness of both the human condition and the self, in light of the Christian tradition and the social sciences, further enhances the pastoral care encounter.

Ecotheology and Spirituality
June 16-27, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Patricia Walter, O.P.
2 credits or 2 CEUs
Our growing understanding of ecosystems and of the universe offers insights and poses challenges to Christian theology and spirituality. In this course we will place in conversation the Judeo-Christian tradition with representative thinkers in ecology and the new cosmology in order to discern the implications of these approaches for contemporary spirituality and practice.

Spirituality and Psychology
July 28 - August 1, 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Paul Coutinho, S.J.
2 credits or 2 CEUs
In the practice of psychology, many of the issues have to do with existential questions such as the meaning of life, work, and personal relationships. The interface of religion, spirituality, and psychology will be explored as exemplified in the work of Viktor Frankl (the quest for meaning), Carl Jung (in search of a soul), and Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic spirituality.
