Liturgy at Aquinas Institute of Theology is an experience of community. These gatherings of the Aquinas community serve to unite students, staff, and faculty through prayer and shape us more intimately into the Body of Christ. Some liturgies recognize significant aspects of our community life, such as the Baccalaureate Mass, healing services for members of the community, and commissioning for those who are departing Aquinas Institute to continue their life journeys.
The Aquinas community welcomes guests to its liturgical celebrations, which are held in the Aquinas Institute Chapel and are scheduled as follows when classes are in session:
| Day | Service | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Eucharist | 11:30 a.m. |
| Tuesday | Prayer at Midday | 11:30 a.m. |
| Tuesday | Contemplative Prayer | 6:00 to 6:20 p.m. |
| Wednesday | Prayer at Midday | 11:30 a.m. |
| Thursday | Community Eucharist | 11:30 a.m. |
| Friday | Eucharist | 11:30 a.m. |
Prayer at Midday and Evening Prayer generally are celebrated as a modified format of the Liturgy of the Hours or a Service of the Word. Occasionally another prayer experience is designed. Typical components are liturgical songs, psalms, and a scripture reading with preaching, prayer intentions and the sign of peace. Preaching at these services is typically done by a vowed religious or lay person-among the faculty or students-in order to give them a rarely afforded opportunity to utilize their gifts. Students who have taken foundational courses in liturgy and homiletics can hone their preaching and liturgical leadership skills in our community worship.
Monday, Thursday and Friday the Aquinas community celebrates the Eucharist. The ordained faculty of Aquinas Institute rotate on this schedule so that all have an opportunity to preside with the community.
Daily Eucharist and Reconciliation is celebrated at St. Francis Xavier (College) Church on the campus of Saint Louis University and at the Catholic Student Center at Washington University during the school year. The Archdiocese of St. Louis also maintains a list of parishes and their liturgical schedules.
