Marian Middle School (grades 5 -8) is a Catholic school for girls and follows the tradition of Nativity Miguel model schools focusing on educating economically disadvantaged students in an academically-challenging, highly-disciplined and nurturing learning-environment. Marian Middle School also fosters the girls' growth emotionally, spiritually and physically. In an attempt to break the cycle of poverty, Marian Middle School graduates go on to attend college-prep high schools. Marian Middle School, as well as our Graduate Support program for those enrolled in tuition based high schools, is funded primarily from grants, donations and fundraisers. We are sponsored by seven religious orders of women: Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union, Sisters of the Most Precious Blood, Sisters of Loretto, Sisters of St. Joseph and School Sisters of Notre Dame. We're located in South St. Louis (near Tower Grove Park) and have teachers that are experienced, certified, professional educators who are assisted by mentors and tutors to the students.
Marian Middle School can tailor a ministry experience to fit the desires of the intern, but possibilities include the following: student retreat planning, preaching at chapel services, liturgical coordination, training liturgical ministers (lectors, servers), planning faculty faith formation, teaching religion class, planning service trips.
*Each intern is required to have the Missouri criminal background screening completed with the results received before the semester begins.
*Illinois residents must also have the Illinois criminal background screening completed with the results received prior to the start of the semester.
*The student must attend the Archdiocesan workshop Protecting God's Children prior to working at Marian Middle School.
We could be somewhat flexible, though the following days/times are important: Thursday chapel at 9:30 a.m. and Thursday afternoons. Candidates are best served to communicate directly with Christy Leming, school principal, to design the most fitting schedule. (Scheduling logistics will be established once the student has submitted his/her Form of Intent.)
