Job Title: Campus Ministry: Catholic Student Center at Washington University
Location: St. Louis
State: Missouri
Position Description:
6352 Forsyth Blvd.
St. Louis, MO 63105
www.washucsc.org

Description:
The Catholic Student Center at Washington University is a house of Catholic formation and a community of hospitality to students of all faiths. The Catholic Student Center strives - through education, service, and a worshipping community that seeks to know and become Christ - to form students intellectually, morally, socially, and spiritually according to the wisdom of the Catholic Church, so that they become active participants in parish life and moral and spiritual leaders in Church and society for the 21st century.

There are a wide variety of ministry possibilities at the Catholic Student Center under the umbrella of Campus Ministry. The following are some of the areas of ministry that previous SPM students have worked on: Bible studies, small faith communities, pastoral counseling, dormitory outreach, retreats, liturgy, music ministry, service and social justice (including service trips), RCIA, fundraising, and graduate student and young adult faith formation.

An intern could expect weekly or bi-weekly supervision, depending on need and course requirements. Troy's approach to supervision is to be a supportive, informative presence on site for the intern. In addition, his approach to supervision would include an element of collaboration in ministry, discussing expectations and evaluation of roles and responsibilities, theological reflection and, in general, helping the intern learn about his/her areas of strength and opportunities to grow.

Requirements:
*Strong communication and collaborative skills would be helpful at this practicum site. The CSC has a fairly flexible and relaxed atmosphere so any student interested would do well to expect that kind of experience.
*Because of the large campus ministry staff, the student will need to be a self-starter and able to engage college students in conversation.
*Each intern is required to have the Missouri criminal background screening completed with the results received before the semester begins
*Illinois residents must also complete the Illinois criminal background screening with the results received before the start of the semester.

Schedule:
The Catholic Student Center Ministry events and activities usually take place Sunday through Friday. We occasionally have events on Saturdays, such as retreats, social events, or service events. We have two Masses on Sunday (11 a.m. and 9 p.m.). These are a major focus of our ministry, so interns are expected to be present at those Masses as often as possible. We'd like the student to attend most, if not all, staff meetings which (currently) are held every other Tuesday from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Weekday work hours are very flexible, although having evenings available is ideal since many programs offered to college students take place in the evening.
