Yesterday’s 4th Annual Newman Convocation with Archbishop Carlson, hosted by Aquinas Institute, was a huge success. Room 149/151 was standing room only with overflow spilling out into the hall. Administrators, faculty, students, staff and friends of Aquinas, SLU (Theology Department) and Kenrick-Glennon Seminary were in attendance as all listened to Archbishop Carlson welcoming all and offering words of encouragement to present and future theologians who serve the church. Kenrick Seminary faculty member and presenter, Fr. Randy Soto, gave an overview of the Vatican II document Dei Verbum.
Each theological school identified student-respondents who spoke on the Influence of Dei Verbum on other recent church documents. Aquinas students, Br. Cristobal Torres, OP and Sr. Megan McElroy, OP, each spoke about Dei Verbum’s influence on the recent USCCB preaching document Preaching the Mystery of Faith: The Sunday Homily.
Both Cristobal and Megan need to be congratulated for the theological and pastoral astuteness that they brought to their presentations and for the answers they shared during the question and answer period. We, at Aquinas Institute, have much to be proud of as we prepare church leaders like Cristobal and Megan.
Thank you to all who planned and participated in this event.
