Congratulations to our DMin Cohort 2012, shown here after last week’s signing of their DMin Cohort 2012 Covenant.
Each Cohort begins to consider a covenant agreement among the members during their Orientation days the summer they begin to study. They give their ideas to a small group (writing committee. Then during the first course (Theology of Preaching) the committee circulates a draft and during their Intensive the students refine it. They live with it for the rest of the Fall semester and through the Spring semester. Then in the fall of their second year together as a cohort, they thoughtfully reflect on it and come to a prayer service to sign it. So last Tuesday, October 8th, Cohort 2012 met in the Chapel at Aquinas and sang and prayed together. Greg Heille preached and then we invited them to read the covenant aloud together. Then they came forward individually and signed it. The framed document hangs on the wall of the office I use when in St. Louis (146) and we bring it to the Intensives each time the cohort gathers. It is given a place of prominence in the room where we study. They agreement is attached here so you can see what they commit to. It is a powerful and serious indication of the relationships we try to foster among students in the DMin program. We say they form a “Wisdom Community.” During their time at Aquinas and beyond, they share the joys and challenges of their academic, ministerial, and even personal lives. For people studying at a distance and communicating mostly online, this is a powerful dynamic!
