Rev David G. Caron, Eight President of Aquinas Institute of Theology

(St. Louis) Rev. David G. Caron, O.P., was inaugurated as the eighth president of Aquinas Institute of Theology, a graduate school sponsored by the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great (Central Province), in a ceremony on April 14, 2013. The inauguration was held at St. Pius V Catholic Church in St. Louis.

Very Rev. Fr. Charles Bouchard, O.P., Prior Provincial of the Dominican Central Province, presented Fr. Caron with the Presidential Medallion, and witnessed Fr. Caron’s profession of faith, along with the Very Rev. Christopher Eggleton, O.P., Prior Provincial of the Dominican Southern Province, as well as Rev. Richard Peddicord, O.P., the seventh president of Aquinas Institute of Theology. Fr. Bouchard said on the occasion of Fr. Caron’s appointment that he is “the right man to bring the Dominican tradition of preaching and scholarship into dialogue with the contemporary needs of the Church."

Fr. Caron is a Dominican of the Province of St. Martin de Porres (the Southern Province), where he most recently served as Socius, or Assistant to the Provincial. Prior to that, he taught at Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis University and Barry University in Miami, Florida, where he also directed the Center for Dominican Studies. His Doctorate of Ministry was earned at Catholic Theological Union in 1998. Both Fr. Bouchard, and Fr. Chris Eggleton said that Fr. Caron's appointment is an excellent example of collaboration between the two provinces. "Working together will strengthen us and will enable us to serve the church better," they said.

Sr. Barbara Reid, O.P., Academic Dean of Catholic Theological Union, offers the keynote address

The events of Fr. Caron’s inauguration took place over the weekend of April 13-14, 2013, and were planned to correspond to the four pillars of Dominican Spirituality: Preaching/Ministry, Prayer, Study, and Community. The weekend began with a ministry project, with several members of the Aquinas Institute community volunteering on Saturday, April 13, at Operation Food Search. A Eucharistic Liturgy of Thanksgiving saw the community gathered in prayer on Saturday evening. The inaugural ceremony itself represented the study component, at which the keynote address was delivered by Sr. Barbara Reid, O.P., Academic Dean of Catholic Theological Union and a respected scriptural scholar. Following the inaugural ceremony on Sunday afternoon, a reception offered Fr. Caron to celebrate with Aquinas students, faculty, alumni, board members, family, and friends. Some photographs of the inaugural events can be found on Aquinas Institute of Theology’s Facebook page, and an expanded photo album can be found on Aquinas' web page.

Aquinas Institute of Theology is a Saint Louis-based Roman Catholic graduate school of theology and ministry administered by the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). Offering both residential and on-line degree programs, Aquinas Institute of Theology is the only Catholic institution in the U.S. to offer a Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) degree in preaching.
