Happy Feast Day!
August 8, 2014
Today, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Dominic de Guzman, who died in 1221.
St. Dominic took to heart Jesus’ charge to make disciples of all nations. He founded a religious community,
the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), which differed from most orders of his day.
Dominic trained preachers who traveled anywhere and everywhere to spread the gospel.
The Dominican family flourishes today because we are solidly planted in Dominic’s spiritual
foundation of prayer, study, community and preaching.
God, beyond us and among us, on this feast of our founder, St. Dominic,
set our hearts on fire with the power of your word. May we be his passion on earth, in the particular
places where we live and work, and with all that we meet.
Dream your dream in us, O Lord, that our preaching will enable your reign
to take place and that your people will be transformed in joy.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, the Eternal Word, who lives with you and the
Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
~You and your loved ones are in the prayers of the Aquinas Institute of Theology community~
