Aquinas Institute of Theology invited the Youth Sing Praise musical theatre and religious retreat group to utilize chapel space for the rehearsal of scenes from Jesus Christ Superstar on Thursday, July 17th. Immediately following the rehearsal, the group then traveled to America's Center, where they performed selections before attendees of the 37th Annual Pastoral Musicians Convention.
Youth Sing Praise is based in Lebanon and Belleville, Illinois, and has existed for 32 years as an annual 9-day theatre camp and spiritual retreat that culminates with a performance (like Jesus Christ Superstar) before an audience of 2,000-5,000 people. Vocally and theatrically talented teenagers from across the country audition each year for parts in YSP. Selected teens then learn and rehearse their roles during camp before the culminating performance at the end of the retreat.
"They love their time at Youth Sing Praise, because we really do consider ourselves to be a family," said YSP Board President Erin Hammond. "They are very excited to be able to perform as a group and just be together."
Brad Behrnan, Artistic Director for YSP, explains that they put on a full youth retreat experience combined with a fully-staged faith-based performance.
"We are very happy to have the opportunity to share our music with the Annual Pastoral Musicians' Convention today," said Behrman.
