The Archdiocese of Dubuque recently welcomed Aquinas Institute Academic Dean Fr. Gregory Heille, O.P., as the feature presenter for their annual priests’ convocation on preaching at Divine Word College in Dubuque, Iowa.
"Wherever I tell people that I teach preaching, folks rush to say that one thing that really matters to them is that preaching speaks to their lives," explains Fr. Heille. "For us preachers, it's not so much about fancy talk as about having a pastoral relationship with your people and relating the good news of the Gospel to their Christian lives—at home, at work, and in the world."
He further explains the challenges priests face as they preach to multiple congregations—whether at multiple masses in one parish or at multiple parishes: “When a priest is preaching as many as thousand times per year, it is no small thing to keep the pastoral relationship fresh and meaningful.”
Fr. Heille was highlighted in an interview in the most recent issue of the Archdiocese of Dubuque’s newspaper, The Witness, shown here: www.dbqarch.org/knowing-ones-congregation-is-key/.
