David G. Caron, O.P., is the 8th President of Aquinas Institute of Theology and Assistant Professor of Liturgical and Sacramental Theology (2012-Present). Dave, a former diocesan priest and parish administrator joined the Dominican Order in 2000. He earned his B.A. (Psychology) from Springfield College in Springfield, MA in1983; his Master of Divinity degree from St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA in 1988 and his Doctorate of Ministry degree (Liturgy) from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, IL in 1998. He served in a variety of parochial assignments and as an assistant vocation director. Dave taught as an adjunct theology professor for both St. Louis University and Aquinas Institute of Theology (2000-2002). He served as the director of the Center for Dominican Studies at Barry University (2002-2008) and as an adjunct professor in the Department of Philosophy and Theology. While at Barry, Dave was the Executive Director for the university’s “Pathways of Possibilities” television show on WXEL (PBS) and was the Executive Producer of Barry’s “Miraculous Minutes” radio programming on WBRY. In other media related productions, Dave produced the video, “Many Who Heard Were Astounded: Preaching the Good News with Hearers in Mind,” for the Catholic Coalition on Preaching Convocation, Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2006. He also served as a judge for the Catholic Broadcasters Association’s “Gabriel” Award, in San Antonio, TX, in 2000.
Within the Order of Preachers, Dave served in a leadership capacity as the Socius (assistant) to the Provincial for his Southern Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres (New Orleans) for two and half years (2010-2012) before returning to Aquinas Institute as Acting President in August of 2012 and is currently serving as President since December 2012.
A former Air Force Chaplain (Captain), Dave’s professional research and publication interests are in the areas of Art and Environment in Catholic Liturgy. He is an active member in both the Catholic Academy of Liturgy and the North American Academy of Liturgy. Dave participates in limited preaching engagements around the country for clergy, church and other organizations especially on the topics of Liturgical Renewal and Liturgical Environment and Art. He has served on and participates in Interfaith Dialogue organizations in Miami and St. Louis. A former board member for the Aquinas Center of Theology at Emory University (Atlanta); Xavier University’s IACUC Committee (New Orleans); and Camillus (House) Healthcare Concerns (Miami), Dave is presently a chaplain for the American Association of the Order of Malta; a member of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre; serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Center of Dominican Studies at Ohio Dominican University (Columbus) as well as a member of the International Commission on the Liturgy for the Order of Preachers (Rome). Dave’s articles, on a variety of topics, have appeared in Liturgical Ministry Magazine.
In his free time Dave enjoys exercising, cooking for his religious community and friends, going to the cinema, reading and relaxing on the beach when the opportunity arises.
